About the Competition
The Farms Competition was first promoted by the Club in 1917 in an effort to encourage farmers to increase food production in order to assist in the alleviation of the extremely serious food situation at that time. Because of the country-wide appeal of the Farms Competition, in 1964 the name of the Competition was changed to “The Hampshire County Farms Competition”
The year 2000 saw the amalgamation of the Romsey & District Agriculture and Horse Show Farms Competition with that of the Fareham & Hants Farmers’ Club.
Frank Moffat was elected the first Chairman of the Competition and Michael Nokes, the first Vice Chairman. A joint committee was formed to represent The Hampshire Farms and Conservation Competition “ from the representatives of both organisations and the late Mrs Valerie Keel appointed as independent secretary.
It is interesting to note that in 1949 there were 82 competitors covering an area of 35,000 acres, in 1988 only 30 competitors covering an area of 32,000 acres, in 2000, 27 entries covering 35,000 acres and in more recent years 28 entries covering 72,370 acres.
Competition BBQ Judges, Competitors, Sponsors and Committee Members enjoying the opportunity to network.
